A one year campaign with the goal of raising $100,000 - 140,000.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $100,000 for the lower level projects: preschool space -indoor and outdoor, restrooms, ground level access to lower level.
The stretch goal is $140,000 to make the main level in our aging building more accessible and hospitable (especially bathrooms and Gathering room). Any remaining money that is not used for the lower level will roll over to this goal.

WE HAVE REACHED OUR INITIAL GOAL!
|
We are now $17,000 into fundraising to make our main floor more accessible and hospitable! |
The Campaign:

We are opening a new door! Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church is undertaking a major renovation! We have a 99-year history of nurturing our congregation and our community.
A little background:
We’ve been dreaming for a long time about the best ways to use our building. We have dreamed about having a preschool in the building. We’ve dreamed of being more accessible to the community, of making our building more welcoming. We set aside a year for discernment in 2018-19, even discussing whether owning the building was the best idea. It was beginning to become clear to us that our future is connected to, not apart from, our building. Then Mandala Preschool approached us. Their need and our mission of hospitality meshed.
Mandala is a well-established, very popular Montessori preschool with a waiting list. They lost their lease when that church where they currently rent decided to sell their building. Our project is to remodel a portion of the basement into an area for the preschool. An office and two classrooms with attached restrooms will be added. Mandala Montessori not only has a long history and a long waiting list but has committed to a 10-year lease for this new and improved space.
Along with this remodel, a new entrance will be created for the lower level, accessible from 17th Avenue. A new ADA accessible restroom will be built. This accessibility component, while adding to the cost of the renovation, will open the building to the wider community we serve and share the hospitality and abundance of God.
Join us on this journey toward our 100th birthday at Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church, a journey full of gratitude, prayer and faith. This is already happening!
What will this cost?
The entire project is estimated at $467,000. We have a construction estimate of $443,000; $14,000 architect fees, and $10,000 preliminary engineering, permitting, and legal fees. We received a loan through a denominational lender, for $410,000 at 2.6%. The rent we receive from Mandala Montessori will cover the payments for this loan. In addition, prior to obtaining the loan, we were also required to set aside $28,000 in an escrow account to cover any possibilities of rent default. These funds came out of our existing building funds.
Many of us have renovated homes and none of us have come in under budget. Right? Our building is old enough to have unforeseen things pop up! But also, we have our mission and our dreams to consider. We have a mission of worship, sabbath and hospitality and dreams of accessibility.
Here is where you come in:
We are planning to raise $100,000 to make sure we can cover all predicted and unforeseen building expenses, with an additional stretch goal of $40,000 to act as seed money for our future dreams.
This is a 2-phase development program:
Phase 1: $100,000 to make sure we complete the basement renovation as needed.
Phase 2: Money not used in the basement renovation, and the additional $40,000 stretch to fund our dreams.
Dreams include: an accessible family bathroom on the main floor, hospitality updates to the gathering room…other things?
It sounds like a lot. It is a lot. If we all pitch in, we can do it!
See the pledge form for payment options.
Donations of $100 or more will receive a special Lake Nokomis Presbyterian church mug!
Please prayerfully think about your personal commitment to this project. We have the opportunity to make our dreams come true and to make our building hospitable to all.
