Star words are chosen for us randomly at the beginning of the year. Star words are not magic. 
God speaks to us all the time, in many different ways, but we are not practiced at listening or watching.

Star Words give us a focus, a direction to look, a way to watch and listen for God.

They can be a specific way God speaks to us.
